Chappie is a 2015 science fiction action film directed by Neill Blomkamp. In a near-future Johannesburg patrolled by robot police, engineer Deon, played by Dev Patel, secretly gives a damaged droid true artificial intelligence. The newborn robot, voiced and performed by Sharlto Copley, is kidnapped by gangsters Ninja and Yolandi and raised as one of their own, while Hugh Jackman's rival engineer Vincent plots to prove that thinking machines are dangerous.
