Enemy at the Gates is a 2001 war film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and inspired by the story of the sniper Vasily Zaytsev. During the Battle of Stalingrad, shepherd's son Vassili, played by Jude Law, is turned into a national hero by the political officer Danilov, played by Joseph Fiennes. The German army sends its finest sniper, Major Konig, played by Ed Harris, to hunt him down, and a tense game of cat and mouse begins among the ruins, while both Vassili and Danilov fall for the soldier Tania.
