Kingdom of Heaven is a 2005 historical epic directed by Ridley Scott. Orlando Bloom plays Balian, a grieving blacksmith in twelfth-century France who learns that the crusader knight Godfrey of Ibelin, played by Liam Neeson, is his father. Following him to the Holy Land, Balian inherits his title and lands and serves the leper king Baldwin IV in Jerusalem. As reckless nobles provoke war with the great Muslim leader Saladin, Balian must decide how to protect the people of the city, with an epic siege at the heart of the film.
