Alex Garland's 2014 directorial debut is a tense sci-fi thriller set almost entirely in a secluded high-tech home. Young programmer Caleb Smith wins a week with his reclusive boss Nathan Bateman, the genius behind the world's biggest search engine. There he is asked to judge whether Ava, Nathan's artificial intelligence with a human face, can really think and feel.
