Boyhood is a 2014 coming-of-age drama written and directed by Richard Linklater and shot over twelve years with the same actors. Ellar Coltrane plays Mason, who grows from a six-year-old into a young man heading to college, while his mother Olivia, played by Patricia Arquette, raises him and his sister Samantha through moves and difficult marriages. His father, played by Ethan Hawke, slowly grows up too. Small everyday moments, from birthdays and road trips to first love, add up to a moving portrait of a family and of time itself.
