Frank Darabont's 1994 drama, adapted from a Stephen King novella, follows Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, a quiet banker sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for a crime he insists he did not commit. Over two decades he befriends Red, played by Morgan Freeman, the inmate who can get anything, and uses his wits to survive a corrupt warden and cruel guards. A patient, deeply humane story about friendship, dignity and hope.
