District 9 is a 2009 science fiction thriller directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson, partly told as a mock documentary. Decades after a huge spaceship stalled over Johannesburg, its insect-like alien passengers live in a fenced slum called District 9. Mild-mannered official Wikus van de Merwe, played by Sharlto Copley, leads their forced relocation, but contact with a mysterious fluid begins to transform him and turns his own company against him, leaving the alien Christopher Johnson as his only ally.
