Donnie Brasco is a 1997 crime drama directed by Mike Newell and based on the true story of FBI agent Joseph Pistone. Johnny Depp plays Pistone, who infiltrates the Bonanno crime family in 1970s New York under the name Donnie Brasco. He is taken under the wing of Lefty Ruggiero, a weary low-level hitman played by Al Pacino, who vouches for him with his life. As Donnie rises in the crew, the strain on his marriage and his growing loyalty to Lefty make it harder to tell where the job ends and he begins.
