Frank Darabont's 1999 drama, based on the Stephen King novel, is set on the death row block of a Louisiana prison during the Great Depression. Head guard Paul Edgecomb, played by Tom Hanks, runs the Green Mile with quiet decency until John Coffey, a huge, childlike man convicted of a terrible crime, arrives. Coffey's strange healing power, a clever pet mouse and a sadistic young guard named Percy turn a routine job into a moving fantasy about justice, mercy and faith.
