Joseph Kosinski's 2022 action drama brings Tom Cruise back as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a daring test pilot who never climbed the ranks. Called back to the Top Gun school, he must train a group of young aviators for a dangerous strike mission, among them Rooster, the son of his late friend Goose, who resents him. Between flights Maverick reconnects with old flame Penny. Real aerial filmmaking makes for thrilling dogfights in a story about legacy and letting go.
