21 Grams is a 2003 drama directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and told in a deliberately fractured, non-linear order. Sean Penn plays Paul, a mathematician who needs a heart transplant, Naomi Watts plays Cristina, a former addict whose family is struck by tragedy, and Benicio del Toro plays Jack, an ex-convict who has found religion. A single accident binds the three strangers together, and the film explores guilt, grief, faith and revenge as their lives collide.
