Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris's 2006 comedy-drama follows the Hoovers, a family full of failures and quirks, on a road trip from New Mexico to California. Seven-year-old Olive (Abigail Breslin) has a spot in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant, and her motivational-speaker father (Greg Kinnear), stressed mother (Toni Collette), silent brother, foul-mouthed grandfather and suicidal uncle (Steve Carell) all pile into a broken VW bus. Funny and warm.
