Ben-Hur is a 1959 historical epic directed by William Wyler and one of the most celebrated films of Hollywood's golden age. Charlton Heston plays Judah Ben-Hur, a wealthy prince of Judea whose childhood friend Messala, now a Roman tribune, condemns him to slavery and imprisons his mother and sister. After years as a galley slave Judah wins his freedom and returns to Jerusalem to seek revenge, culminating in a spectacular chariot race, while his path keeps crossing that of Jesus.
