Stanley Kubrick's 1968 science-fiction landmark opens with prehistoric apes discovering a strange black monolith and jumps millions of years to a future of space stations and lunar bases. When a second monolith is found on the Moon, astronauts Dave Bowman and Frank Poole set off for Jupiter aboard the Discovery One, a ship run by the calm, all-seeing HAL 9000 computer. The long journey slowly turns into a battle of wills between the crew and the machine.
