Peter Farrelly's 2018 comedy-drama is inspired by a real friendship. In 1962 Italian-American bouncer Tony Lip, played by Viggo Mortensen, takes a job as driver for classical and jazz pianist Dr. Don Shirley, played by Mahershala Ali, on a tour of the Deep South. Guided by the Green Book travel guide for Black motorists, the two very different men face racism, arguments over fried chicken and letters home, and slowly come to respect each other.
