The Whale is a 2022 drama directed by Darren Aronofsky and adapted from Samuel D. Hunter's play. Brendan Fraser, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the role, plays Charlie, an online writing teacher living with severe obesity who rarely leaves his small Idaho apartment. Cared for by his friend Liz, a nurse played by Hong Chau, and aware that his health is failing, Charlie reaches out to his angry teenage daughter Ellie, played by Sadie Sink, hoping for one last chance to make things right.
