Created by Steven S. DeKnight for Starz, this historical action drama ran from 2010 to 2013 across Blood and Sand, the prequel Gods of the Arena, Vengeance and War of the Damned. Andy Whitfield, and later Liam McIntyre, play Spartacus, a Thracian who is enslaved in the ludus of Batiatus and trained by Doctore alongside the champion Crixus and the swaggering Gannicus. The stylised arena battles and sweeping rebel speeches build to his war against Crassus.
