Sunset Boulevard is a 1950 film noir directed by Billy Wilder and one of the sharpest films ever made about Hollywood. William Holden plays Joe Gillis, a broke screenwriter who hides from debt collectors in a crumbling mansion owned by Norma Desmond, a once-great silent movie star played by Gloria Swanson. Norma hires him to polish the script she believes will return her to the screen, and Joe slowly becomes a prisoner of her fantasies, her wealth and her loyal butler Max.
